A Victory Dinner

The crew enjoyed a grand dinner at an Italian restaurant. The Skipper showed great courage while still wearing dress whites with red sauce and Sea Scouts on hand.

The Olympia and Becuna.

Come on, Skip, can't we take the Olympia out? It was Commodore Dewey's Flagship...

Smile!

The Sea Scout Ship Gryphon has been named the 2003 BoatU.S. National Sea Scout Flagship!

The Gryphon crew is extremely proud of being awarded this high honor and hopes to continue the traditions of other past National Flagships, such as the S.S.S. Invincible (2002) and the S.S.S. Kansan (1931 & 1933).

The Gryphon was officially presented the National Flagship award in Philadelphia by Ryck Lydecker of BoatU.S. during the Boy Scouts of America's National Meeting on May 30, 2003.  The Gryphon spread its eagle wings and flew across the United States to accept the National Flagship award.  The ceremony was attended by five crewmembers, one of the Gryphon's newest Quartermasters, the Skipper, two members of the parents' committee, and three mates.  The Gryphon crew met with the National Venturing & Sea Scout Director, the National Sea Scout Commodore, the National Sea Scout Boatswain, and the new National Venturing youth officers.

The Pacific Skyline Council's Scout Executive, Council President, and numerous council volunteers wholeheartedly  showed their proud support for the Gryphon during the National Meeting.  The Pacific Skyline President enthusiastically spoke on the Gryphon's behalf at the Flagship ceremony.  The Council President also had the distinct privilege of announcing to the Gryphon crew, parents, and officers that the Gryphon had been named the National Flagship at the Gryphon's Quartermaster and Eagle Bridge of Honor on April 26, 2003.

The Gryphon crew also enjoyed the historic and maritime sites of Philadelphia.  The landing party toured Independence Hall, visited the Liberty Bell, the U.S.S. New Jersey, the U.S.S. Olympia, the U.S.S. Becuna, and the maritime museum, to name a few additional adventures.

Thank you to BoatU.S., the Gryphon's Committee Chair, and everyone who made this possible, most importantly, the Gryphon crew.
